Why do I need a library card?
If
you want to borrow books, magazines, CDs, videos or other items from our
library, you need a library card. Materials will be loaned only to people with
a valid library card. Your card should be presented each time you borrow an
item. Library cards are non-transferable, which means that only you may use
your card.
How do I get a library card?
If
you are a new borrower, 14 years of age or older, you must present positive
identification, showing your name and current address, such as a valid driver's
license (with new address label if changed). If you do not have a photo I.D.,
we require 2 other forms of identification showing your current address.
Children between the ages of 5 and 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal
guardian who will be required to show the above identification and sign for the
child.
What if I lose my library card?
Lost
cards may be replaced by a borrower in good standing at a charge of $1.00.
What if the item I am looking for has been
borrowed by someone else or is not owned by the library?
You
may reserve an item that is not currently available for check-out by speaking
to a Librarian. You may request an item that the Milford Town Library does not
own from another library. This is called interlibrary loan. Ask for help at the
Information or Children's Desk. For both reserves and interlibrary loan, you
will be notified by telephone or email when the item is ready to be picked up.
Items will be held at the front desk for 7 business days after we call you.
What happens if my dog chews up an item that I borrowed
from the library, or I lose an item that I borrowed?
If
you lose or damage library materials, you must pay for the replacement of the
item(s) before you will be allowed to borrow from the library again. Totally
damaged, unusable, or lost items must be paid for at the full replacement cost
plus a nonrefundable processing fee.
For
your convenience, the library provides a book drop located to the right of our
front door. The library is not responsible for books and other materials left
in the book drop. Under no circumstances should library materials be left
outside of the book drop.
Most library materials
may be renewed by phone, online at this Web site (check your library
card record now) or in person for one additional loan period. Please have
your library card or items at hand when renewing. Fines will be charged if
items are not renewed by the due date. For most items the fine is 10¢ per
business day for each overdue item. The overdue fine for DVDs, Videos and Video
Games is $1.00 per day. If a museum pass is returned late, there is a $2 per
day fine.
