Children’s Library Cards

Children who are 5 years or older, may have a library card of their own. You should ask for an application form at the Circulation Desk. A parent or legal guardian will need proof of identification to sign permission for a child to have a card. Parents or guardians are responsible for any overdue, lost or damaged materials borrowed by a child.

Materials

The Children’s Room of the Milford Town Library holds books, DVDs, magazines, recordings, story kits and other items which children may use and borrow from the library. We have computers that provide access to the Internet. This room can open the world to your child. Parents are also responsible for what their children read. We do not act in loco parentis, which means that we do not monitor the library materials children choose nor do we limit children from access to any materials available in the Library. Parents are responsible for what their child is allowed to borrow or use in our library and should make their rules clear to their own children. Under Massachusetts Law, what any person borrows from our library is confidential, regardless of the person’s age.

Unattended Child Policy

Parents must decide whether their child is mature enough to remain alone while using the library. The Milford Town Library is a very busy public building with hundreds of people using the facility daily. The library does not assume responsibility for the behavior or safety of children of any age who are left unattended at the library. Parents are liable for all damages done by their children to the library facility or to library materials. The library does not assume responsibility for children while parents participate in library programs or other activities in the library.
